"A Dream Interrupted - A Life Reborn"
About the play........
This the third play written by Rodney E. James is a story close to his heart. In October 2008 his wife and co-producer Kay Ellison-James was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Kay who was no stranger to this disease, because of her mothers death as a result of Breast Cancer over 25 years ago, and a sister who is a survivor of over 10 years has had the awesome opportunity to somehow be one of the key sources for her husband on this project in a way that neither one of them would had ever dreamed. "A Dream Interrupted, A Life Reborn" is loosly based on Kay and Rod's experience from diagnosis through treatment, and depicts the journey of an African American Breast Cancer survivor. Rodney James envisions the play to tell the story of a women’s dream life; proposed marriage, followed by betrayal, the denial and secretiveness of the diagnosis, her man’s perspective, the trials of chemotherapy and ultimate recovery through Faith in God and the support of family. This poignant work gives an up close and personal glimpse of a disease that touches many women, men, families and communities.
